Quick and Easy-to-do Mustard Sauce for Meats

I was hanging at my sister’s place when dinner time rolled by so I looked in the fridge and the pantry to see what I can come up with. It was a nightmare. I had pork steak slices which I bought in the afternoon but there was practically nothing else available – no pepper, no instant sauces you can heat up… but at least there was mustard! I decided to put together a little pasta dish and pork steak with mustard sauce. The recipe below is only for the mustard sauce folks!

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons mustard

1/4 cup white sugar

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1/2 cup milk (or cream if you have it)

2 egg yolks

Directions:

In the top half of a double broiler or a medium metal bowl, stir together the mustard, white sugar, and flour until blended. Gradually stir in the milk/cream so that no lumps form – remember to stir it in slowly. Place the mixture over a pot of simmering water. and cook while stirring occasionally until thickened for about 15 minutes then remove from fire. Remember to do this over a double broiler – or a bowl over water.

Whisk the egg yolks and stir it in the mustard until well blended. Let it stand for about 5 minutes. Do NOT add the egg yolks while the sauce is being cooked  otherwise you might end up with something that looks like an omelet – definitely not something you’d want over your pork steak.

Add salt or pepper to taste and do not hesitate to lessen the sugar if you think its too sweet. Once you’re happy with the sauce, pour it over grilled or pan-fried meat.

Bacon and Cheese Pasta with Pork and Mustard Sauce

Genji @ Greenhills

I can’t believe my sister and I hung out in Greenhills the whole day. It may not be that unusual if we actually stayed there the entire time but note that we went there separately in the morning (I had breakfast with my brother and she with her client), met up while they were doing a little shopping, went all the way home to Antipolo, and then went back to Greenhills again for dinner.

Initially my sister wanted to eat at Teriyaki Boy at the Promenade because she was craving for Kani Salad but since there was a long wait, we decided to just walk around and look for another Jap place. We saw Tokyo Tokyo after a bit of walking but they were just too fastfood-y for our taste. We kept walking and after a while we just felt too hungry to be picky. We saw Italianni’s (at the Carpark building) and headed towards that direction. Italianni’s was twenty steps away when she suddenly stops near the elevator and stares at a banner. There’s a promising Japanese restaurant at the 2nd floor. GREAT!

The staff opened the doors and we were led to custom-built Japanese style wooden booth. Hmmm. Very promising indeed. Continue Reading…

Miss Desserts @ Serendra

Serendra is one of our (office-mates) fave lunch places. Good food, good place, available parking. It was the usual Friday lunch-out and this time we finally got to try Miss Desserts.

We’ve been craving for Miss Desserts for months but we never seem to catch it open. As with most of the places at Serendra, Miss Dessert opens after lunch. While we were contemplating on where to get dessert, I suggested that we try and pass by Miss Dessert and see if it’s open and luckily, it is! No Friday-the-thirteenth bad luck for me! Hehe.

Ever since I saw that a newspaper article talking about Miss Desserts proudly hung on the outside window, I knew I had to check them out. Situated right beside the famous Cupcakes by Sonja, Miss Desserts had serious competition. It wouldn’t be a surprise if most people that walk into Miss Desserts are people who wanted to get Sonja’s cupcakes but are turned off by the long line. Will they disappoint or will they give you that orgasmic sugar rush that will surely make you return for more?
